Carl Ben Eielson Middle School
Carl Ben Middle School opened in August of 2006. It is one of three middle schools in the school district. The staff are was very involved in the design of the building and focused all their efforts and knowledge in creating a middle school environment that was "best for kids".
Students from Jefferson Elementary School, Kennedy Elementary School, Lewis & Clark elementary School and Lincoln Elementary School go to Carl Ben Middle School and finish their educational career with the district North High School.
Who is Carl Ben Eielson?? 
Carl Ben Eielson was born in Hatton, ND studied UND and went into the Army completing his pilot training. In 1921, Eielson enrolled in law school, giving up his love of flying, at Georgetown University. While in law school, he became friends with an Alaskan representative in Congress and was offered a job in Fairbanks, Alaska at a high school. With Alaska being so remote, he quickly realized the value aviation would have on remote land. Eielson purchased a plane and began flying passengers and supplies throughout the northern territory. Alaskan's gave Eielson the name of "Father of Aviation" in 1924 as he piloted the 1st airmail route. He partnered with Captain George Wilkins and together they completed a non-stop flight of 2,200 miles over the North Pole and a 1,200 mile flight in the Antarctic discovering 6 new islands. President Hoover presented Eielson the Outstanding Aviator of the year award in 1929. While attempting to rescue passengers and cargo from an ice trapped ship in the Bering Strait, Eielson was killed in November of 1929.
