If you’re considering a move to the Fargo-Moorhead area, you may be wondering what makes this community different from other places to call home.

After helping buyers and sellers throughout Fargo, Moorhead, West Fargo, Horace, Dilworth, Detroit Lakes, and other surrounding areas  since 1995, I’ve had the opportunity to watch our area grow and change. We’ve added new neighborhoods, businesses, restaurants, schools, entertainment, and employment opportunities, but we’ve managed to hold onto something that can be harder to find in larger cities: a strong sense of community.

Here are five things I think make Fargo-Moorhead a great place to live.

1. Friendly Neighborhoods

One of the first things people notice about Fargo-Moorhead is how welcoming the area can feel.

Whether you prefer an established neighborhood with mature trees, a newer development, a condo or townhome community, or a home with a little more space outside the city, there are plenty of options throughout the metro.

And every neighborhood has its own personality. Some buyers want to be close to downtown, while others are looking for parks, schools, walking paths, newer construction, or quick access to work.

That variety is one of the reasons I enjoy helping people find the right neighborhood—not simply the right house.

2. Growing Opportunities

Fargo-Moorhead continues to grow, bringing new businesses, employment opportunities, housing developments, and services to the area.

That growth means homebuyers can explore everything from established Fargo and Moorhead neighborhoods to newer developments in West Fargo and surrounding communities.

For homeowners, continued growth can also make it important to understand how new construction, neighborhood development, buyer demand, and local market conditions may affect their home's position in the market.

3. A Small-City Feel

Fargo-Moorhead offers many of the conveniences you would expect from a larger metropolitan area without always feeling like one.

It’s not unusual to run into someone you know at the grocery store, a local restaurant, a community event, or a Bison game.

For many people, that balance is a big part of Fargo-Moorhead's appeal.

There is almost always something happening somewhere in the Fargo-Moorhead area.

Throughout the year, our communities host festivals, sporting events, farmers markets, concerts, theater productions, arts events, holiday celebrations, and family activities.

We’re also fortunate to have a community that supports local organizations, schools, nonprofits, businesses, and the arts.

Those events do more than give us something fun to do on the weekend. They help create the sense of community that makes this area feel like home.

5. Easy Access to Amenities

Another benefit of living in Fargo-Moorhead is convenience.

Residents have access to shopping, restaurants, parks, recreation, healthcare, schools, colleges and universities, entertainment, and an international airport—all within the metro area.

And when you want to get away for the weekend, Minnesota lakes country and many smaller surrounding communities are within an easy drive.

It’s a combination that gives residents access to plenty of amenities while still enjoying the lifestyle of a smaller metropolitan area.
