There’s something about fall in Fargo-Moorhead that makes you want to soak up every nice day while you still can.

The leaves start changing, sweatshirts come out of the closet, pumpkin patches open, and suddenly everyone remembers that winter isn’t all that far away.

After living and working in the Fargo-Moorhead area for years, I think fall is one of the best times to get out and enjoy our community. Whether you’ve lived here forever, just moved to the area, or you’re thinking about making Fargo-Moorhead home, here are 10 things to add to your Fargo Fall Bucket List before winter takes over.

1. Visit a Local Pumpkin Patch 🎃

Is it really fall until you’ve wandered through a pumpkin patch?

The Fargo-Moorhead area has several options, including Buffalo River Pumpkin Patch, Lil’ Bitz Pumpkin Patch and Lost in the Valley. Grab the kids or grandkids, find the perfect pumpkin and take way too many fall pictures.

It’s one of those simple traditions that never seems to get old.

2. Take a Fall Walk Along the Red River 🍁

We get a relatively short window when the trees are showing off, so take advantage of it.

Lindenwood Park is one of my favorite places for a fall walk. The trails along the Red River are beautiful when the leaves begin changing, and you can walk, bike or simply slow down and enjoy the scenery.

Sometimes the best fall activity doesn't cost a thing.

3. Spend a Saturday at the Red River Market 🥕🍎

If you haven't made it to the Red River Market yet this year, there's still time.

Head downtown, grab something good to eat and browse local produce, baked goods, handmade products and other finds from area vendors.

It’s also a great excuse to spend a little extra time downtown and support local businesses.

4. Take a Fall Drive Outside Fargo 🚗🍂

You don’t have to travel very far to see some beautiful fall scenery.

Pick a sunny afternoon, turn off the GPS for a while and explore some of the smaller communities and country roads surrounding Fargo-Moorhead.

If you want to make a day of it, head toward Buffalo River State Park for hiking and fall colors.

And as a Realtor, I have to admit: I’m probably going to notice every house, acreage and piece of land along the way. Occupational hazard! 😉

5. Experience an NDSU Football Game 💚💛

Few things say fall in Fargo quite like Bison football.

Even if you aren't the biggest football fan, there's something fun about the energy surrounding game day. Tailgating, green and gold everywhere and thousands of people coming together makes it a Fargo fall tradition worth experiencing at least once.

6. Explore Downtown Fargo ☕

Pick a crisp Saturday or Sunday and spend a few hours downtown.

Grab coffee, browse the shops, have lunch somewhere you haven’t tried before and take a walk down Broadway.

One of the things I love about Fargo is that we continue to grow while still maintaining that sense of community that makes this area feel like home.

7. Do Something Spooky 👻

October gives you plenty of opportunities to embrace Halloween.

From haunted attractions and corn mazes to family-friendly Halloween events, there are options whether you want genuinely scary or just an excuse to get the kids dressed up.

If scary isn't your thing, a Halloween movie at home with popcorn absolutely counts.

8. Check Out a Fall Festival or Local Event 🍎

There is a surprising amount happening around Fargo, Moorhead and West Fargo during fall.

Markets, art events, Oktoberfest celebrations, craft fairs and family activities fill the calendar throughout September and October.

Pick something you've never attended before. You may discover a new annual tradition.

9. Get Your Home Ready for a Fargo Winter 🏡

Okay, this one isn't quite as exciting as pumpkin patches and football — but your future self will thank you.

Fall is the perfect time to tackle those little home-maintenance projects before the temperatures drop.

Clean the gutters, check weather stripping around windows and doors, disconnect outdoor hoses, have the furnace checked and make sure the snowblower is ready to go.

Because around here, we all know what’s coming. ❄️

And if you're considering selling your home in the next several months, fall is also a great time to start preparing. You don't have to wait until spring to begin the conversation.

10. Enjoy One Last Night on the Patio 🔥

You know the night.

It's probably a little colder than it should be. Everyone has a sweatshirt or blanket. Someone suggests going inside, but nobody actually wants to.

Light the fire pit, grab your favorite fall drink and enjoy it.

Because eventually we're going to look outside and see snow — and wonder why we didn't spend more time outdoors when we had the chance.

Thinking About Making a Move in Fargo-Moorhead?

One of the things I love most about real estate is that I'm not simply selling houses. I'm helping people find their place in a community I've been fortunate to serve for many years.

Maybe you're wondering what your Fargo, Moorhead or West Fargo home is worth. Maybe you've outgrown your current home, you're ready to downsize, or you're thinking about buying your first home.

You don't need to be ready to move tomorrow to start the conversation.

If real estate is somewhere on your radar, let's talk about what your options look like in today's market.
