Drawing its roots back to 1873, the Northern Pacific Railway selected this area as its station and by 1880 it became an incorporated village with a population of 376. The town was initially called 'Casstown' after the railway president George Cass, however when a post office was set up later on, it was designated as 'Casselton'. Currently, many of the homes for sale lie in former farm land - an area made exceptionally fertile due to its location within the Red River Valley. A mere 20 miles from Fargo city centre, Casselton is often referred to as either a 'commuter town' or a 'bedroom community'. The 2021 census registered this site having 2,479 inhabitants.
